Join the Friends for a short, easy hike through the unique sandplain area in Andover. Come hear about the centuries-long history of farming in the area, as well as its use as a sandpit and mink farm. We’ll also enjoy early winter scenery at the farm dam and pond, and along the Skug River. Lastly, we’ll visit the only stand of Pitch Pine in Parker Forest and talk about the ecology of the sandplain. Rain cancels.

Parking is available at gate A28, next to 66 Harold Parker Road, and at the Jenkins Lot. We will start our hike from gate A28.

Route: North on the main fire road to the farm dam, and then east on the trail between two ponds looping back to the main fire road. We’ll make another loop by taking a fire road going to and then along the Skug River and back to the dam. From there we’ll return south on the main fire road taking a short detour to view the Pitch Pines.
